“In a room in a house on the outskirts of the town Beryok – exactly where, only the devil knows.” Eva is bored. She’s in a foreign country, where she has nothing to do. Her husband, who is the manager of an oil refinery, loves her to death. She lives a life of luxury, but that doesn’t give her any comfort, she is bored! One day her husband gets a new assistant and his fellow travelling wife, Elsa, listens to classical music, eats organic, reads poetry and is full of good intentions. Elsa is convinced that it’s possible to make an exchange between the different cultures, which Eva finds nerve-racking. Bärfuss’ play is a lovely black, neurotic, alcoholic comedy about being trapped in the shadow side of earth. Moreover it’s a refined play, which looks keenly at the most intimate between people and it raises its view on some of the bigger aspects of society. First performance at Deutches Theatre in Berlin, 2009.
