This is Peter Asmussen’s adaptation of Thomas Mann’s short story “Luischen” from 1900. The setting is a provincial town before WWI. Advocate Jacoby’s young wife, Amra, is the centre of the city’s social life, but the marriage only appears to be a happy one. She is playing with fire and drives her husband to disaster.
