This is Sven Holm’s play about Leonora Christina. It is a piece of free drama taking historic events as the starting point. The play presents the national heroine Leonora as a colourful, attentive, capricious and quite power-hungry woman: A strong and wise old woman, who lived at the Maribo convent for the last 13 years of her life. Through confrontations with her servants, with her past (especially her stay in The Blue Tower), with her son Leo and the great hymn writer Thomas Kingo, we experience how her admirable qualities cover up a great humanity but a more ambiguous psyche. Why did Leonora hang on to one love her entire life, one version of truth and one image of the heroine? From where did her strength emerge and what did she gain and lose by using it?
