THE GREGERSEN SAGA (I-IV)
Peter Asmussen based on Christian Kampmann’s novels
Multiple characters
Drama
Christian Kampmann almost x-rayed Denmark during the period 1954 – 1974 in his novels about the Gregersen family, when the Danish welfare state was founded. We follow Thilde and Mogens Gregersen – a married couple – and their five children over a period of 20 years. The hard-core family disintegrates and as society changes the five siblings move from the tradition-bound forms of cohabitation to testing of other ways of organizing life. Following the most expensive screen adaptation ever in Denmark’s history, during 2005 – 2008 Kampmann’s work was performed at Aarhus Theatre as one of the largest Danish theatre projects ever. In 2005 volume I: “Certain considerations” was produced, in 2006 “Steady relationships” and in 2007 “Without compromise” were produced; a seven hour mammoth performance was produced in 2008 comprising the previous three mentioned together with the last novel “Other ways” made status and covered almost fifty years, from the 1950s and up till the Millennium; here Peter Asmussen gave his view of how the family might look like in 1999.
