Three tramps pick up a young boy at the Central Station on December 24. In the light of Christmas they name him Jesus. They refer to themselves as the three wise men and celebrate a highly divergent Christmas Eve. A soldier from the international brigade lets emotions run away with him during a posting. His job was really just to observe. Things are going badly for a married couple. In the end things go wrong and the situation gets out of control. It ends in a crime. Asmussen moves to the marginal areas of regulated life, out into an unknown country: “I want to tread new paths with you”, the woman tells the man. Separately, Asmussen’s characters break new ground. Each in their own way they offend written and unwritten rules. The play takes the form of a series of interrogations in an attempt to shed light on the crimes which are being whirled up.
