God has given Erika an assignment: She has to go on a pilgrimage - the day after she must be in Poland at The Black Madonna. She goes by bus, but the bus has a completely different destination. Erika seeks the help of the others, but they all behave extremely odd. Where are they really going? Slowly, Erika realises that the bus is no ordinary tourist bus with common people. A rotten collision of esoteric disease is travelling in this corpse – the vibrating death-bus. However, the roads also take them up in the mountains where the world is still a beautiful place… With Bärfuss’ characteristic and magnificent poetry, he succeeds in composing a story with impressive symbolism, intensity, grotesque humour and brilliantly sculptured characters. Last year, he received “The German dramatist of the year” award for DER BUS.
