Václav Havel

Václav Havel (1936-2011) was a Czech writer, playwright and politician. He had his breakthrough as a playwright in 1963 with the play GARDEN PARTY (ZAHRADÍ SLAVNOST). It was followed by MEMORANDUM (VYROZUMÊNI) from 1965, which is one of his most famous pieces. A central theme in his writing is the individual's alienation from the outside world. His writings are also highly critical of the totalitarian systems such as Communism, why he was banished from the theater and instead began his political career.
