Jacob Thune Hansen Gade (29 November 1879 - 20 February 1963) was a Danish composer, violinist and conductor. Jacob Gade started with nothing and made his way up. He started as a musician in his farther's orchestra in the Danish provinces but left for Copenhagen where he ended as conductor at some of the biggest theatres. In 1919 he went to USA and worked himself up to a place in one of New York's symphonic orchestras., but in 1921 he returned to Copenhagen, and shortly after he composed Jalousie, Tango Tsigane for a movie, and that was the way to world fame. Tango Jalousie is one of the most popular and most performed tunes ever composed. In 1931 Gade retired as a musican and devoted himself to composing.
