Henry Adam was born in Wick in the far north of Scotland in 1964. He worked extensively in Youth and Community theatre before turning his attention to the professional stage. His first full-length play for the Traverse Theatre, "Among Unbroken Hearts" transferred to the Bush Theatre, London after successful runs in Edinburgh and the Highlands. For "Among Unbroken Hearts" Henry Adam was joint winner of the prestigious Meyer-Whitworth Award for new writing in the theatre in 2002. "The People Next Door" premiered at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh in 2003 before transferring to London's Theatre Royal, Stratford East. "The People Next Door" has been the recipient of many awards, including Best New Play of 2003 (Critics Awards for Theatre in Scotland) and has been performed extensively throughout Europe and North America. Henry Adam lives in Edinburgh and is currently working on a cinema adaptation of "The People Next Door" for the director Andrew Douglas. He has just completed his third play for the Traverse Theatre, "The Israelites".
