Gianina Carbunariu (b. 1977) is a Rumanian playwright and director. Since her debut in 2003 with “Stop the tempo” she has received national and international acclaim and has directed in Rumania, Poland, Germany, Ireland, Bulgaria and France etc. After finishing her studies at the University of Bucharest she launched the project “Dramacum” together with two colleges. The idea behind the project was to get in touch with the young playwrights and to explore the work between director and playwright and also the play’s relation to the world. Carbunarius´ plays are often focused on the painfulness of youth – the disruption between child/adult and home/away, which attracts a young theatre audience.
