Torben is going on a vacation to Crete, and he asks his friend and neighbor, Kaj, to keep an eye on his apartment: Water the flowers, pick up the newspaper and such. The job also includes an unusual task: to pick up the phone when Lisbeth calls and come up with a lie to keep her off with talk. Then Torben can enjoy himself in peace with another woman in Crete. He suggests that Kaj says that Torben has committed suicide for Lisbeth's sake. That’s too much for Kaj, though. Instead, he finds an easier lie: that Torben is injured and is in hospital. Of course this worries Lisbeth. Kaj would like to help to comfort her, and suddenly a complicated love triangle has started.
