The main character in this play is a Narrator in form of an eccentric elderly Englishman, Henry Carr who worked as civil servant at the consulate in Zurich during the First World War. The author admits the story being a fantasy as he misuses history in letting Carr experience events that took place in Zurich in 1917, such as the gatherings of Lenin, James Joyce and the Dadaist Tristan Tzara. So by invitation from James Joyce, Carr participates in one of Joyce’s amateur productions of THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST and regardless of reality, Carr mixes possible events with his own real experiences.
