Who will ever forget the amazing and popular serial about the catholic priest, Ralp de Bricassart (Richard Chamberlain), who loved both God and the girl Meggie (Rachel Ward) and whose pangs of conscience resulted in years of unfulfilled amour fou? The big, tragic love story between the simple country girl and the priest touched several generations of readers and viewers to tears. The understanding between the Australian outback and the glorious halls of the Vatican launches the burning feelings where both passion and tragedy blush and thunder. It has always been a question of time when the master work should see the light of the theatre scene. In 2008 the deep emotional story was produced as a musical. The author, Colleen McCullough, made the musical in cooperation with the acknowledged German composer Gloria Bruni. Together they composed an expressive story wherein the power of love and the power of forgiveness create the human being. Some time ago the serial won three Emmy Awards including four Golden Globe Awards. In the USA the number of viewers has only been overtaken by Roots.
