Dramatization rights. THE WAVE is an essay based on the authentic, social psychological experiment, ‘The Third Wave’, executed by American high school teacher Ron jones in 1967: Jones becomes frustrated when he doesn’t succeed in explaining a sceptical student how ordinary Germans could state, that they had been completely unaware about what happened to the Jews during The Third Reich. Does Jones know the answer to this simple question himself? Not really. He spontaneously decides to find an answer using himself and his students as guinea pigs.
In 1981 the experiment became a TV-film and a novel by Todd Strasser, THE WAVE. In 2008 a German, award-winning remake was made called DIE WELLE.
