Five people are gathered enjoying a good meal. They have not seen each other for a long time and the atmosphere is good. Ernest and his wife, Stephanie, have invited her brother, Martin and their childhood friend Mary and her boyfriend Donald. The good atmosphere is soon to be changed, when the past slowly creeps up on those involved and transforms their lives into a hell of confessions. Stephanie’s and Martin’s father has just passed away and soon it is being revealed that during a five-year period he abused Mary sexually. Martin couldn’t look his father in the eyes and had to flee abroad while Stephanie tried to keep together the pieces of what was so good – the safety, the love and the children’s games. But games can be dangerous – especially when the mysterious Mary begins spinning her scary childhood tales, which take control of the brother and the sister. Why does Mary return to the house to take revenge? Why did the locked cabinet have to be put into the cellar? And why is Ernest drawn to the cellar where the father developed his photographs. Many of these questions are being answered in this cleverly constructed thriller where nobody knows what is truth and what is imagination. The play gained much attention at the reading on Scandinavia on stage in New York in April 2001.
