Charity Hope Valentine is a naïve and faithful girl, who works as a taxi-dancer at a dance restaurant and inevitably gives away her heart – and money - to the wrong man. We follow her as she sings, laughs and cries her way through various romances, either with ‘the-hero-with-the-uncontrollable-magnetism’, ‘the-super-chic-European-hero’ or ‘the-hero-who-you-cannot-trust-but-is-better-than-none’. Then one day in the lift at YMCA, she meets the righteous Oscar Lindquist, who instantly falls in love with her and offers his hand in marriage. Though unfortunately, he cannot accept her profession and so Charity is back on the same track, hoping to meet her ‘knight in shinning armour’.
