The playwright’s first full-length play was presented at a reading at the Betty Nansen Theatre, Copenhagen, 2001. The title refers to the Danish words ‘guilt’ and ‘shame’. The story takes place in the provincial dump of Vamdrup on the flat Jutland Moor. The transvestite Ulla (Ulrik) dreaming of a career as variety singer in Hamburg has been asked to dinner with her/his eternally impossible teenage daughter by the petty-bourgeois, fussy Ella who is running a guesthouse in a small delapidated farm. The alcoholic, suicidal Hans-Erik with a past as a terrorist and the fanatic champion of the freedom of the individual, Lau are her lodgers. In order to get attention Ella is exercising her boring mother love on her dependent son Max, who in turn is dreaming of a career as an actor. He falls in love with Maria, who falls in love with Lau, who soon transmits his philosophy of life and fundamental kinetics to those who fight against the father and King of the City Kurt Kjær’s ideas of demolishing the city in order to rebuild it as the Centre of Europe: City plan Vamdrup. All ends in mental derangement, sex change operations, plans for the revolution of the continents, murder, fatal unhappy love and the conversion of those in power in this chaotic and mad comedy about the little person’s fight to preserve the existing petit-bourgeois society. The play draws its dynamics from the eminent narrative skill of the author and the gallery of characters of madmen. The dangerous cocktail strikes sparks when elements of opposite charges crash in this first work which will be performed for the first time at Aalborg Theatre, Denmark.
