Jelinek's Eurydice is a descendant of the characters from Prinzessinnendramen where Jackie, Snow White and others entered the stage. Dying after being bitten by the snake, Eurydice enters the realm of the dead, remembers her life in the shadow of the popstar Orpheus, and feels unexpectedly well, being a shadow and no longer an object of desire. There is growing unrest in the world above her and Orpheus descends to Eurydice to bring her back to life: His life.
