Rigoletto, its staff of four and some of its clientele, a multi-cultural, multipurpose,
multi neurotic bunch, are united in their need for company. And
caffeine. ‘The Quartet from Rigoletto‘ is dedicated to the proposition that the
greatest gift in life may be the ability to make the perfect short black. Nick
Enright comments “I spend a lot of my life in cafe society ... I go there for the
coffee, the food, the back numbers of magazines I wouldn’t be caught dead
buying and, of course, the people. The passers by. The staff: cheerful,
abstracted, suicidal, brisk, vengeful, what will it be today? The customers: lost
souls like myself who come to work on that novel, comb the classifieds,
deconstruct that movie, reconstruct that relationship, kill that hour, plan that
life..” A light, breezy romantic comedy.
