Vivian Nielsen has created a strong, bizarre and humoristic piece of drama based on Anne Marie Løn’s terrific bestseller about “the princesses” – two beautiful farmer daughters in a north Jutlandic farm. Valborg is the will strong, Violet the charming one and together they run the vast estate after the death of their father. However, fate has struck the family and the big farm has run out of happiness. As the farming is taken care of, the private decay of the house and the sisters accelerate. And underneath it all lurks the secrets about the men in their lives, which they dare not tell each other yet. The result is a fascinating play about pride and misunderstood feminism, about the desire to live up to male ideals linked with the contempt for them, about proclaiming yourself master of fate with whatever consequences it might cause. The performance was a huge success at the Vendsyssel theatre.
