This is a hard, laconic play about the brief life of a boy at the lowest rung of the ladder of Russian society. Maxim is navigating as best he can in a world peopled by prostitutes, sadists and shit. Scenes of terror have been sided with farcical situations and thus create the framework for one of the most remarkable plays written in a long time. This was a great success at The Royal Court as well as at the Bonner Biennale 2002.
