With this play, Williams surprised his audience by writing a romantic comedy about two married couples. One couple is newly married whereas the others have been together for six years. Both couples have come to a critical stage in their partnerships and are going through an ‘adjustment period’. However, by the end of the play, both couples seem to have settled in again.
