ON THE RAZZLE is Tom Stoppard's 1981 adaptation of Johann Nestroy's Viennese play Einen Jux will er sich machen (roughly, "He Will Have His Way"). Stoppard's farce consists of two hours of slapstick shenanigans, mistaken identities, misdirected orders, malapropisms, and romance. Preparing to go to Vienna to woo a wealthy widow, Herr Zangler, a prosperous merchant, is determined that that young Sonders will not get to marry his niece, Marie. Meanwhile, in the back room of Zangler's store, Weinberl, the chief sales assistant, and Christopher decide to go to Vienna themselves in search of a razzle, or adventure. Once there, Weinberl will become involved with the beautiful widow, Frau Fischer, and all the characters will wind up at a cafe for a clever swirl of hidden and mistaken identities.
