In this play, one is introduced to Sue; a successful business woman approaching her fiftieth birthday and living with a somewhat younger, very selfish and thoughtless man. Seemingly, she accepts her life as it is, even with the guilt of having her sixteen years old son living in a community home. However, a dilemma arises at Christmas when the son comes home on holiday, having been promised at school that he need not return if his mother agrees to look after him. And so Sue is forced to choose between her lover and her son and since she is not prepared to give up her independence for her son, a tragic ending is inevitable.
