For about a month, the young student Alexej has worked as a private tutor for the son of a wealthy family, at their country estate. Before long, he falls in love with the Mother, Natalja and his feelings are returned. However, rivalry arise when `Natalja's adopted daughter, Vera also pursues the young Alexej. and so, blinded by jealousy and heart agony, Natalja soon entangles herself in a situation that is routed for disaster.
