The story takes place in a high building. Ms. Schlüter has decided to commit suicide and everything is planned in details. Suddenly the door bell rings. It is the postman with a package for the neighbour who is not at home. When the drain leaks and the caretaker must fix the problem Ms Schlüter has to change her plans indefinitely. Much goes on in this wonderful black comedy which in an entertaining and moving way manages to bring the stories of these world-weary existences together.
