In this play Nikoline Werdelin lets morality of the past and the present reflect in each other. The story takes place both in the past (Copenhagen 1870) and in the present. Two stories are put together, illustrating our time by comparing it to different norms and taboos. In 1874, a pianist is composing a sonata in the house of a wealthy family where cheerful, romantic salons are held. What lies beneath is coldness, obsession and a suppressed staff of servants. In 2004, a librarian discovers the sonata and attempts to map the fate of the pianist based on sources about secret passion, guilt and mental homelessness.
