Måvens is writing his suicide note. For years a single costumer hasn’t visited his candy shop and his negative and angry mind has tortured him enough – he simply can’t go on. Now, he intends to eat all the candy and prepares to die in the bed recess. Suddenly the phone rings. It is Peder from school. Recently, his life has been no picnic either. Ever since his parents disappeared he has been living in a pear tree in the village green until he attempted to rescue a mother from a sea monster one day, but instead was beaten up by a couple of sly guys and blown into a telephone booth, in which a branch dialed Måvens’ number. They are extremely happy to see each other again and since neither one of them know what shall become of them in this strange world, they decide to go canoeing. On their trip they meet a woman with internal beauty; a paranoid fat fellow with smoking abstinences and a group of people who look at their own reflections in rivers and other shining objects until the water is as thick as cookie doe. The trip becomes a clash between Måvens’ and Peder’s different views of the world. Peder believes it pays off to be positive and enjoys the life you’ve been given. Måvens, self declared communist, realist and anarchist, believes the world has fallen apart, and he so desperately longs for a sense of logic in everything.
