This one act play is often performed in connection with ‘THE COLLECTION’ as thematically they are very similar when it comes to marital wishful thinking.
It revolves around the young, sophisticated couple; Richard and Sarah who could easily have been taken straight out of a Noël Coward comedy. On the outside, they are seemingly normal and traditional. However already from his first line it is made clear that they are somewhat unconventional; as when preparing to leave in the morning, he asks his wife: ‘Is your lover coming today?’ to which she replies in a most natural manner ‘Yes he is’!
As it turns out, the lover is Richard; dressed casually and calling himself Max. After his arrival they embark on an imaginative erotic ritual. So in conclusion, the possibility lies that the couple’s fantasy world has become more real than the world from which they try to escape.
