LILJA 4-EVER (2002) is Lukas Moodysson’s third film. 16-year-old Lilja lives in a grey and poor suburb in the former Soviet Union, but dreams of a better life. When her mother abandons her to move to USA with her new husband, Lilja is in a desperate situation: She has no money and is forced to live in a small, fatigued flat with no electricity or heat. In order to get by, she has to steal. But when she meets Andrei one day, she falls head over heels in love, and her life takes a drastic turn.
