Sailing down the Mekong River in a ferry when their eyes meet; an elegant Chinese business man in a limousine and the 15-year-old Marguerite Duras. Even at first glance; this is undeniably the beginning of a very special relationship: She thinks of it as a way of providing for her less fortunate family. The relationship however, develops into an erotic and intense one, even though a legalisation of it is impossible because of strict tradition and racial issues. His father has other plans for him and her family belongs to a lower class in society. Marguerite Duras, who was born in Indochina in 1914, describe this autobiographical love story in the novel ”L’amant”, which was published in 1984, selling 3 million copies. The aging author Marguerite Duras is portrayed as she recollects the intense story, vibrating with unspoken feelings. Premiered at Regionteatern Blekinge/Kronoberg, 2008.
