The story takes place in a flat in a concrete building in the outskirts of the big city. This is where the somewhat criminal 19-year-old Dima lives with a view offering a nearby cemetery. The night before he goes to war in Chechenia he has an improvised party for some of his friends: Arkasha with mafia contacts; Slavik, a junkie already living with Dima and the 20-year-old Lera, a neighbour and prostitute without means who brings her academically educated cousin Yulka – a siren with a sadistic taste for destruction. Sigarev’s black-comic text reveals the depth in a youthful desperation and soon brings us a dreary story from Putin’s Russia. This is modern, nihilistic social playwriting at its best.
