The musical’s main feature is the priest Frollo and his hate and love relationship with the freedom-seeking gipsy Esmeralda, whom he can never have. Along with these characters one finds the hunchbacked and human-shy bell-ringer Quasimodo, the soldier Phøbus and the poet Gringoire. On the night of the Fools Day coronation Quasimodo defies his strict master’s order and joins the crowd of festive people. Automatically he becomes the centre of attention in both good and bad ways and that is the beginning of a dramatic story about morality, crime, love and hate. The 22 parts can be performed by 16 players.
