Margit and Haldor have been married for a few years and have a boy of an appropriate age. We experience one morning in the home. In the garden, a bickering bird sits on the roof and in the tree by turns. Every time it sits on the roof the parents argue furiously and when it flies over to sit in the tree everything is idyllic. An elderly unmarried librarian guy, Ex Libris, visits the couple and is confronted with both the loving and struggling couple. This is quite confusing. It feels very embarrassing when he is forced to take sides and is – quite unreasonably – blamed for causing the arguing in the idyllic periods.
