An old married couple has decided to starve themselves to death by only eating crackers with knife and fork. They are sick and tired of their life and age, which has made them weak and sick. Their grown-up children, Edith and Knud, give them no pleasure – actually the opposite, therefore, when they shown up on the doorstep in order to find out what’s going on with their parents, their parents refuse to open the door. Finally the old couple finds peace and decides to lie down in the bed and wait for death to find them. But are they death, when their children come back later on entering the apartment? And what do they want?
