Orchestra: Guitar, Harp, Percussion, Horn and keyboards “The Mulatto” was Hans Christian Andersen’s biggest triumph as a playwright. In its time, the play was performed several times at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen. Based on this play, Sebastian has created a magnificent erotic musical about racism and forbidden feelings. KÆRLIGHEDENS FARVE (The Colour of Love) takes us on a fairy tale on the tropical island Martinique. During a horrible storm where lightning and thunder rage in the sky, the rain has soaked the two young women Eleonora and Cecilie. They must seek shelter with the free mulatto, Horatio. To their big surprise, Horatio appears to be an elegant man of the world. He is also beautiful, and the hidden longings of the two women are rapidly turned on. The encounter between the three will have fatal consequences, as Eleonora is the wife of the wealthy coffee plantation owner La Rebelliere, and Cecilie is his ward. And La Rebelliere is known for his violent contempt towards the coloured inhabitants of the island. Once the storm is over, Cecilie and Eleonora are drawn to Heratio’s home. Cecilie has fallen in love, and Eleonora is forced to settle with her own and her husband’s racist prejudices. When La Rebelliere learns the reason for his wife’s new opinions, he becomes extremely jealous and arranges for Horatio’s arrest and puts him up for sale at the slave market. Elsewhere on the island, a group of runaway slaves – managed by the mulatto Paléme – plan a rebellion against their white oppressors. Can the cunning of honest women in love turn the disaster into a happy ending? Sebastian’s new songs are poetic and heartrending with beautiful duets and effective drama. There are several catchy hits and the music is beautiful and pure. The press wrote: “The colour of love… is airborne because of Sebastian’s music” – Politiken / “Catchy music – contains several hits” – Fyns Amts Avis / “Sebastian has created the music – and what astonishing music!” – Jyske Vestkysten.
