IN FLAME is Charlotte Jones’ second play and it instantly achieved plenty superlatives from the critics. It is a play about life and death, love and lust, guilt and hope and dreams. In other words, all the big themes that are worth a mentioning. It deals with several generations of women’s lives, so with ninety years between, two stories capriciously mirror each other. The young ones fall in love in all directions whereas mothers and grand mothers perform their patterns of tyranny. So reality and fantasy are mixed most deftly in situations and language. With a great sense of humour, Charlotte Jones has managed to portray the flames of passion though good and bad, before and now.
