When we think of Ibsen’s women we normally think of Nora and Hedda, Frau Alving and Solveig. Less focus has been put on the women in Ibsen’s real life – but they were there all along. We are introduced to Ibsen as an old, bitter and ill man, in his flat in Kristiania, accompanied by his wife Suzannah and his son Sigurd. He knows that he is about to die. Yet his thoughts travel back to the young Emilie Bardach whom he met several years ago and never stopped dreaming about.
