Baltimore 1962. Tracy Turnblad is overweight but that doesn’t prevent her from following her dreams and becoming a fixture in Corny Collins Dance Show. When her dream becomes a reality Tracy is transformed from a social loser to a famous star. Her first rival, the slim Amber, swears to bring down the busy girl and the situation intensifies when they both attempt to win the title as Miss Auto Show 1963. This musical is based on John Water’s film from 1988, starring Divine and Ricki Lake who was unknown at the time. HAIRSPRAY premiered on Broadway in 2002 and shortly after it won 8 Tony Awards.
