We are back at the time when the Germans occupied Denmark and Hafdan Rasmussen was a poor and politically engaged author who struggled to get his poems and articles published. In 1940, he receives an invitation from Tove Ditlevsen, who wants to start Young Artists Club. Here he meets the poet Morten Nielsen. It is a fateful meeting and a deep friendship develops. Morten Nielsen joins the Resistance and presses Halfdan to do the same. Halfdan’s wife, Ester Nagel, comes between them; she is struggling to keep her husband at home at the writing desk. At the same time she, artist, woman, is caught in a merciless dilemma between being an author and a housewife. A Halfdan Rasmussen portrait of friendship, loyalty, love, war and resistance which was created during the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of Denmark when Halfdan Rasmussen would have turned 100 years.
