This play is the first dramatisation of Charles Webb’s famous cult novel from 1963 as well as Calder Willingham’s and Buck Henry’s screen version of the play, 1967. The play premiered at The Gielgud Theatre, April 2000 staring Kathleen Turner in the role of Mrs. Robinson. Benjamin is concerned about the future at his graduation party held by the well-heeled parents – they expect him to study and make a career for himself. He is seduced by the older friend of the family, Mrs. Robinson, and this affair does not get any less complicated by the fact that he falls in love with her daughter. Benjamin’s catastrophic sexual odyssey is a fascinating description of the chaos of youth, rebellion and the developing of a mature independence.
