A wonderful fairytale play suitable for all ages. In a country, supposedly India, in which fireworks are a style of art, Lila wants to master the fireworks just like her father. However the father wants her to be a dancer and get married. Many adventures follow: Including magical and dangerous animals in the jungle; exciting gods and goddesses. In the end Lila rescues her father from being executed by winning a huge Fireworks Competition. The play offers great possibilities for a spectacular production. In 2005, Philip Pullman received “The Literary Award in memory of Astrid Lindgren”.

-” It is hard to pinpoint the exact moment of the fact when I fell hopelessly in love with Told By an Idiot’s new version of Philip Pullman’s novella […] There are so many theatrical magic moments in this show it is hard to choose […] It combines the fairy-tale quality of Pullman’s book with a pantomime humour and a sense that something important is at stake – maturity, happiness, independence and parents recognizing when it is time to let their children go. It is vulgar and wistful, delicate yet robust and it goes with a bang. “-Lyn Gardner / The Guardian
