New York, New Year’s night 1938. Vera (40 ) is married to a wealthy, overweight producer Joe (50 ). They have just returned from a big New Year’s party with some friends. Joe goes out to meet up with a blonde girl he met at the party. He claims he is going to get himself some aspirins. A young author Dennis (39) was also present at the party and he is deeply fascinated by Vera. He comes to see her in the flat and begs her to come with him on a trip around the world 3 hours later. But Vera chooses the safe life with her promiscuous husband.
