This is one of the great modern successes. It tells the story about Eva Peron who was the first wife of the Argentinean Dictator Juan Peron, though initially the story did not seem obvious for the musical genre. We follow her rise from outmost poverty to her position as the hope of the nation and on to her cancerous death, at too early an age. Everything is told in a succession of alternating scenes with only a few actual changes and it is made clear how money and power goes along with the image of ‘Daughter of the Nation’. Throughout, the revolutionary hero Che raises before her critical questions. The show has been in production in London and New York for more than 10 years and is also available in a screen version.
