Cookie Close is born to sell cosmetics. In high heels and on bleeding feet she does door to door with her trolley in an American suburb fighting to convince the world, that her products can make people realise that they, too, were made in Gods own image. But as Cookie ages the sales go down, and she has to struggle more and more clinging onto her beauty mission.
Cookie’s decay is manifested in an eternal, almost absurdist, loop of failed sales attempts and flashbacks to her past. Noah Haidle has written a grotesque, surreal portrait of an unbreakable woman as a goodbye to the American lifestyle and ideals.
