Based on the classic play by Henri Nathansen, this has become a great Danish musical about the relationship between Danish Jews and Christians in the period just before the First World War. We follow the Jewish girl Esther and the Christian boy Jørgen who are not allowed to marry, due to their different backgrounds and also because their families hold a mutual distrust towards each other. But luckily, love prevails in the end.
Simultaneously, the musical gives a fine picture of life in Copenhagen at the beginning of the century and also offers a taste of the terrifying persecutions of Jews in Eastern Europe, by introducing the Jewish girl Rosa who takes refuge with the Levin family.
