Two journalists from the tabloids seek out the famous stand up comedian Barry in his hotel room. Disguised as bankers they talk him into giving a speech to the staff at the bank in return for a large sum of money. After a lot of drinks they become more and more familiar with each other. Unaware of the fact that his rants about his contempt towards his own audience, his drug abuse and sexism were recorded by hidden microphones and cameras, Barry soon finds himself at the mercy of the media world. Next step: to make the victim ally himself with the tormenters. Inasmuch as his story is going to be of interest to the readers, he has to realize that he can make money off this himself. Should he recline, he must suffer the consequences. This is a cunningly written tragic comedy about fraud and self-delusion, and about a society in which empathy and personal ethics is replaced by the hunt for money and fame. Premiered at The Royal Court Theatre in 2004. Scandinavian premiere at Dramaten in 2008.
