Max Stafford Clark’s production of this exciting Irish debut play was one of the most discussed plays at the Edinburgh Festival 2003. Duck is both the pet name of the central character in the play -an ultra modern teenage girl – but it is also a reference to the old way of treating presumable witches – “Ducking”. The story takes place in today’s Dublin where Duck explores the city jungle with her friend Cat who works at a night club. Duck kick starts her young life by blowing up her boyfriend’s car and starting a sexual relationship with a 50-year-old married man. After all her Sturm und Drang, it is clear to her that the togetherness with her best friend Sophie is probably the best choice... An insightful and well written play about the youth and the great challenge: To navigate on your own.
