Inspired by the Cynic Diogenes (412-323 BC), this is a wicked satire on
contemporary consumerism. The very wealthy and successful Doig has
fallen from grace and sunk into a deep depression. His sister, Daisy
wants him to move on with his life and out of her spare room, so she
employs life coach, with dubious motivational methods, to revitalize him.
The coaching works, but with unexpected consequences,
much to Daisy’s disgust, Doig decides to give away all his worldly
possessions and embark on a crusade of non-consumerism, wearing just a
recycling bag and living in a cave. But there is an ironic twist, as Doig, to
his horror, discovers his non-consumerism message has been hijacked
and become a successful brand and a religious cult, with “Doigists”
everywhere.
