Dante leads the audience through a journey, which stretch beyond life and reality. The story takes place in Easter week in the year of 1300, where he travels through the three lands of dead helped by three guides; the Roman poet Vergil, Dante’s beloved Beatrice and the religious reformer Skt. Bernhard of Clairvaux. The play, as the book, is separated into three parts; Hell (inferno), purgatory (purgatorio) and paradise (paradise). In the end Dante finds his way to God through the land of dead.
